I didn't have hamburger buns, but regardless it tasted really good. I had to substitute sirloin for ground turkey for other reasons though. I wanted to surprise my father by making this. I began trying to make it with the ground turkey, and when I defrosted it I think it ended up cooking, so I was trying to salvage it by cutting it up in a bowl, and then my mother came into the kitchen and saw me cutting up a small brick of turkey, and I explained that I was trying to make a burger. She said that it didn't look like it was going to be able to turn into a burger, and I agreed, but kept cutting the meat in the bowl with the knife, not really ready to give up, but highly doubting I can turn this sad looking who knows how old quartered turkey into a hamburger patty. Then my dad came in the kitchen and he and I added an egg to the turkey chunks and we started breaking them apart with a fork, then it started looking a lot more like a patty. We then put butter and some bacon grease in a pan, and then turns out we didn't have hamburger buns, but we had bread and hotdog buns, I used hotdog buns because bread would make it further from the taste of a burger bun. Then I cut some yellow onion slices and put them on, and my dad found some tomatoes, and I sliced them up. I put the mayonnaise and ketchup on the top bun. By now the turkey patty actually looked like a patty. we put cheese on the patty and then we melted it onto the burger patty, and then we put it on the attempt at a burger. my dad then put the mustard on it, and then we split it. He was surprised that it tasted good. Me too, and we had a good laugh. He and I didn't think it would work out, but we did it, and it wasn't bad. And then he said he could kind of taste the Wendy's. It was really fun. Thanks for the recipe, even though it's definitely different with all the substitutions, I wouldn't have attempted to do it without your recipe!
dvdronk asked a question about Dutch Oven Campfire Cobbler
I use one if the “chimney” type charcoal lighters. Brickettes in tube, newspaper underneath. Use 25 brickettes, 10-11 under Dutch oven and remainder on top. This will yield 350F for about 1 hour.
