I created an account here JUST to leave this review: that's how good this cake is! Simply put, this is a stunningly delicious result. I admit that my cake didn't puff quite as beautifully edge to edge as I would have liked (I have a little bit of a sunken center), but it doesn't matter. It tastes absolutely divine. Light, soft, and incredibly fluffy sponge with a richly decadent yet, somehow, not too heavy sauced layer. I ate this piece and then had to fight, and I mean FIGHT, the urge to go grab the whole dish and finish the entire cake off. It's that good. Make this!

I used home made kraut. My mother-in-law showed me how to make kraut while I was in Germany. Also cut my kielbasa on a bias for visual appeal. Then I used low and slow method on the stove top. when you make your own kraut, you can make it as "sauer" as you want!
