This is my go to Gingerbread recipe. I have been making these for YEARS, to the point I had to come find the recipe again as my copy is getting so worn! My family and friends rave about these every time I make them. I make the exactly as written and roll them between parchment. I have never added the lemon zest and they are still wonderful. We are going to make "Mug Huggers" out of this dough today. I usually just use a buttercream type icing, but we plan to try them with Royal Icing for the huggers. Make this recipe!
