My husband had to feed hungry grandkids in a hurry, so he made a few subs: we had no whole milk so he used 1 3/4 cup heavy cream and 1/4 cup water. Subbed rigatoni for elbows, and easy melting cheese instead of cheddar because that's what we had. The grandkids (7 and 9) raved about this, and had seconds. This would be great following the original recipe, and adding leftover ham and cooked broccoli for a main. Really great basic recipe that helped us out in a pinch. Thank you so much for your post!
