This is the best ham loaf recipe I have tried. My favorite thing about it is the ground turkey — it does not overpower the ham the way ground pork does. It keeps everything balanced and lighter but still indulgent. I made two swaps: I used a whole 8 oz can of crushed pineapple in place of the water in the glaze. And I made this into 8 ham balls instead of a whole loaf. Baking time was an hour total, 30 minutes without the glaze, 30 minutes with the glaze added. This took me back to the first time I ever had this meal at a friend's parents' house in Pennsylvania many years ago. I have been searching for that recipe ever since, and this is the closest I have found. If you have been on the same hunt, look no further!
It was absolutely delicious! I added a little bit of Lipton onion soup mix.
bcooney asked a question about Basic Quiche
I use the basic recipe and add whatever I want. e.g. ham, spinach, bacon, mushrooms, cheese, broccoli, etc. I don't cook the spinach or mushrooms. I also use a rice crust instead of pie crust. Great way to use up leftover rice, just press into the pie plate in maybe a 1/4 to 3/8 inch layer.
